Towering above the Fremont river, Capitol Dome rises to an elevation of 6,120 feet above sea level. This monumental sandstone peak can be seen along the scenic path of Utah State Highway 24. It wasn’t until 1962 that travelers could access spectacular views along this road. Before the highway opened, motorists had to navigate the narrow walls of Capitol Gorge on their way through the park.
