Completed in 1892, Bishop’s Palace is considered by architectural historians as one of the most important Victorian mansions in America. This palatial home was commisioned by Colonel Walter Gresham, and designed by Galveston’s premier architect Nicholas Clayton. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Galveston purchased the structure in 1923 and it was used as a bishop’s residence until 1963.
