The Pioneer Monument, located within Donner Memorial State Park, is dedicated to the emigrants who crossed the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the mid-1800s on their way to California. Completed on June 6, 1918,
it sits on top of a 22 foot pedestal, facing west. Visitors to the area today enjoy camping, hiking, and boating in the summer, and activities in the winter such as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
