Due to a decline in the lumber industry, the town of Cass shut down its mill and railroad in 1960. The state of West Virginia soon brought Cass into the state park system, and eventually converted the railroad into a tourist line. By 1977, the company town was also obtained and restored as part of the park. Visitors now come from all over the world to experience the nostalgia of riding aboard Cass’ historic steam engines.
