The Tall Ship Elissa is a square-rigged iron barque that was built in 1877. The Galveston Historical Foundation rescued Elissa from a scrap yard in Greece and began restoration work in 1978, transforming her into a floating museum by 1982. The Tall Ship Elissa is one of only three ships of her kind in the world that will still actively sail today. More than 40,000 visitors visit this historic ship each year.
