Hoover Dam is known as an arch/gravity dam that was created using 4.5 million cubic yards of concrete. At its base, the dam is 660 feet thick narrowing to 45 feet at the top. It is 1,244 feet across, and stands 726 feet high. Hoover Dam is hydro-electric powerplant that produces more that four billion killowatt-hours of electricity per year, serving 1.3 million people in California, Nevada, and Arizona.
