Located on the northern edge of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Lower Calf Creek Falls is one of the most well-known features within the monument’s 1.9 million acres. In 1875, John Wesley Powell described a “great stairway” of geologic layers climbing from the
Grand Canyon to Bryce Canyon. The description remained, giving rise
to the name of this vast network of desert canyons and plateaus.
