Canyons of the Ancients National Monument was designated by President Bill Clinton on June 9, 2000.
The Monument includes over 174,000 acres of land in the Four Corners region of southwestern Colorado, and contains the largest known number of archaeological sites in the United States. This region has been populated and used by humans, including Ancestral Puebloan cultures, for approximately 10,000 years.
