Established in 1916, Bandelier National Monument was created to protect the dwellings of the Ancestral Pueblo people and many other archaeological sites. Between 1934 and 1941, workers from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) completed numerous projects within the monument. Among their contributions are the many miles of trails, a road into Frijoles Canyon, a new lodge, and the visitor center that is still in use today.
