Called the “Eden of Wayne County” the small settlement of Junction was home to no more than 10 Mormon families beginning around 1879. The verdant valley, nestled among the towering red cliffs, provided perfectly for the growing of fruit orchards which led to renaming the community Fruita in 1902. In 1937, Capitol Reef National Monument was created to preserve the landscape and history of this desert oasis.
