Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve was founded in 1980 to protect 8.4 million acres of Alaska’s pristine arctic wilderness. It is a remote and vast landscape that challenges visitors to an expedition of solitude and adventure. With no roads into the park, access is limited to waterways, on foot, or by plane. A trek into the rigorous tundra is a quest limited to the heartiest of explorers.
