In June 1917, Dr. William Hopkins and Dolph Andrus set out from Bluff, Utah, in a Maxwell roadster to advertise the scenic wonders of the West. They blazed a trail through Monument Valley, paralleled the north rim of the Grand Canyon, and ended their excursion in Zion Canyon, calling the path they followed the Monumental Highway. Many have since discovered the boundless beauty promoted by these motoring pioneers.
