MY PASSION FOR HISTORY

I am enamored with the lure of the open road, cruising the scenic byways of America in a classic car. I grew up with a passion for the past  which evolved into a career pursuing the history of motor travel and of the art surrounding adventure on the highway. This endeavor has produced numerous illustrations, found in our collection that are based on nostalgic stories of tourism.

INSPIRED BY HISTORY

Ever since I discovered that I had opposable thumbs, I have been collecting and researching artifacts related to travel and tourism history. I have refined that interest over the years to include items that help tell the stories of those who have traveled the historic roads of the past. Their discoveries have inspired me to pursue my own path, and see the country’s scenic and historic wonders for myself.

OPENING ZION

While surfing a collection of rare scrapbooks found on eBay, My wife Melissa discovered an album containing professional grade images of a publicity trip to Zion  in 1920. It was the first season after Zion became a national park, and the promoters sought tourists to visit the newly crowned wonderland. We purchased the album, and thurpoghly researched the story. The result was the publication of our work in the book “Opening Zion, a Scrapbook of the National Park’s First Official Tourists.”

MOTOR TALES

I tried to talk my dad into buying me a Model T Ford when I was eight years old. My grandma convinced me it would just sit in a field and get shot full of holes. I have always loved old cars, and fortunately I have added Model T operator to my list of skills. My interest in vintage machines resulted in the creation of a series of booklets called Motor Tales that cover early automobile history in Utah. They are accompanied by a series of block prints that are used to illustrate the covers. These have been collected by numerous institutions, including the Utah State Archives, The University of Utah, and the University of Michigan.
