COMMEMORATING THE DONNER PARTY

In the Fall of 1846, 25 Members of The Donner Party became Trapped by an Early Snowstorm here at Alder Creek Valley. The George and Jacob Donner Families, their Teamsters, and Fellow Travelers Suffered Extreme Hardship and Starvation. They Spent the Winter Here Cut Off from the Rest of Their Party Who Camped at Donner Lake. Only 11 Survived the Ordeal. Their Survival, Against Desperate Odds, Stands as a Testament to the Enduring Pioneer Spirit that Helped Shape the Future of California. (Dedicated on September 28, 1996 by the Tahoe National National Forest to Commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Donner Party Tragedy.)

DONNER STATE PARK: SUMMIT DRIVE

Said to have “eliminated for all time the terrors of the Donner grade,” Rainbow Bridge facilitated better passage over the Sierra-Nevadas. Before the bridge and connecting highway were built, 18% grades plagued motorists who braved this steep stretch of the Lincoln Highway. When it opened to traffic in 1926, the bridge ushered in a new era of smooth travel over what became California US Highway 40.

Posters are available with fade resistant, UV treated inks on stiff coated paper. They also include a matte UV finish that reduces glare. At 14″ x 22″ it is the perfect size for display.
