WHO WE ARE
Scenic Hwys is a small, family-owned business located in rural Utah, not too far from some amazing national parks.
I am an author, artist and amateur historian with a passion for tourism history. I also like to think of myself as a “professional tourist,” exploring the scenic highways and byways of America whenever I can get away. Perhaps we will meet along some dusty road on our journey out there, somewhere…
WHAT WE DO
Explore our artistic interpretations of America’s scenic wonderlands.
Travel through time as you explore artifacts and tourist history from Americas most scenic drives.
Visit the diverse regions of the country’s historic and scenic landscapes.
In 1923 a group gathered in Cedar City Utah, just beyond the gateway to several national parks to form what they called the Scenic Highways Association.
Their intention was to advertise the scenic wonders of the west, and to draw tourism to those beautiful natural gems. They wanted to share their discoveries with the world.
REDISCOVER THE PAST
At Scenic Hwys, we hope to bring the vision of these pioneers to life by taking tourists back to the golden days of motor travel, when the journey was more that the destination. The vintage road trip was an adventure, full of unexpected revelations. History, beautiful landscapes, and newfound knowledge appeared at every turn.
By reintroducing the images, travel guides and artifacts of the past, we will take you on a journey of the past through the eyes of those who have traveled those roads before.
RECREATING THE VIEW
In addition to the experience of seeing the nation’s scenic wonderlands through the views of the past, every illustration produced by Scenic Hwys is carefully researched and drawn to bring the history of a place to life.
Based on poster design from the mid Twentieth Century, our art is carefully crafted by hand. Even typography is often custom designed to capture the essence of the place it represents. To understand the feeling of each unique location, we attempt to visit these places where we research and document the features we explore.
For over 100 years, these scenic wonderlands have been rediscovered anew, everytime they are visited by millions of visitors who venture in via the most picturesque roads in America.
